is called The Power of Mindful Learning" (McCluskey When1and1AreNot.html). In essence, this appears to mean that if we pay close attention to things we will note that preconceived notions are
not always accurate. And, this is the subject of Ellen J. Langers book "Mindfulness." In this book she discusses what most of us do when we think and go about
our daily business. She claims that we are often unmindful in our approach to life, merely moving through our lives without truly stopping to think of what we do, what
we say, and how we act. In the following paper we examine Langers perceptions of unmindfulness and what mistakes we make when we are unmindful. Unmindful According to
Langer, "Nothing we know is truly independent of context...With single-minded views...people confuse the stability of their mindset with the stability of the underlying phenomena" (NA). McCluskey states that "Langer
is describing mindlessness here: A mindless approach to life gives us a false reading of the world -- we think its standing still, when actually its our perceptions of the
world being held constant with single-minded views" (When1and1AreNot.html). If we stop and think about this we can see that this is a very powerful truth. So often we rely on
the information we learned as children, never stopping to examine the possibilities. And, when the reality we assume is the correct one seems to change we find ourselves lost because
we are not mindful of possibilities. Langer states that "With mindlessness youre trapped in a single perspective, insensitive to changes in context. The past over-determines the present" (NA). She
