1458 Joan of Arc is one of the most intriguing characters of world history. It might be
contended, in fact, that she was one of the greatest military leaders of all time. This contention is made particularly interesting given her status as a woman and the
fact that she was a mere teenager when led her men into battle. The thesis must be presented that Joan of Arc was an effective military leader because of
her ability to convince others that she was indeed directed by God. Fortunately, there is no lack of material available to aid a
serious study of Joan of Arc. Not surprisingly, given her life accomplishments and her charismatic persona, Joan of Arc had had volumes written about her. She has inspired
artists, historians and biographers the world over. She has even been the subject of many songs. Margolis (801) contends that since 1429, just two years before her death
in 1431 at the age of nineteen, over 10,000 works ranging from drawings to manuscripts have been produced that feature Joan of Arc. The objectivity of these many accounts,
