Navy. Discussion Military bearing is difficult to define precisely. It is a general quality that a military person has about them that makes them stand out from the civilian "crowd."
They stand taller, straighter, more proudly than others. When they are in uniform, it is pressed and every detail is taken care of, from the placing of medals and badges
to the sharp creases to the spit-shined shoes. A person with military bearing is obviously proud to wear the uniform of his or her country, but its more than that.
They make others proud as well, to see that we have such fine people in the service. It is also vital that superior have, and continue to exhibit, military bearing
before their subordinates. One of the basic principles of the military is that senior staff NCOs and officers lead by example, and so they must be better than the troops
they command. They must give the younger, less experienced members of the command a role model, in appearance of course, but also in the way they care for their troops.
They must be compassionate as well as inspiring, and the troops must know that they can go to their First Sergeant, their squad leader, their company commander-any of the people
further up the chain of command, and have their attention. Of course it is expected that the junior troops will treat the seniors with the respect they deserve, but
it works both ways. Seniors must also respect their juniors. A sloppy trooper with scuffed shoes, a messy uniform and hair out of regulation is not giving proper respect to
