Criminal justice has benefitted tremendously from recent scientific and technological improvements. Crime scene investigators no longer have to rely
on obvious evidence such as footprints and eye witnesses, they can collect invisible bits of evidence such as fingerprints and DNA that demonstratively link the criminal with is crime.
There are, of course, certain hurdles that still confront us in criminal justice, With patience and fortitude, however, even those hurdles can be overcome.
Improvements in fingerprint and DNA processing capabilities, in particular, are considered great milestones in criminal justice. One of the most important considerations in crime scene processing is insuring
that not just this type of evidence but all evidence is collected in the manner that best preserves it and insures its integrity for proving guilt. To be of
value evidence must be collected and processed in accordance with several specific criteria. Collection methods must be thorough and precisely detailed so as to prevent evidence contamination. Collection
and laboratory techniques must be above question or, if questioned as they undoubtedly will be, capable of standing up to the closest scrutiny and criticism.
