factors that appear common to the migration patterns of a range of populations. For example, Marger (2012) noted that migration from Latin American countries to the United States has
increased considerably over the past century, and this has marked one of the largest immigration streams in world history. The countries of Latin American and the Caribbean have experienced
a high level of migration to the United States, but there are clear economic lines in relation to the populations migrating in recent decades that have had a negative impact
on the countries left behind. Because the United States has defined criteria for immigration and has economic requirements that can be applied to the immigration of certain populations, socioeconomically
disadvantaged countries often suffer when their professional and educated citizens moved to the United States. People with the money, resources, and education to leave do so, leaving behind a
large population of poor and working class citizens with limited education. One of the interesting aspects about this kind of shift is that individuals who may have very
high socioeconomic standing in their home country may find that they are limited in relation to both resources and career choices once they come to the United States. A
doctor from Mexico, for example, may have the resources to leave Mexico and emigrate to the United States, but may find that once he is here, his professional skills are
