the company and the way it competes is important to consider the relationship strategies which he utilized by the company. The way in which Microsoft has developed as a company
has been based on the number strategies, but the ability to leverage the markets and the way in which it manages its relationships has been key to the way the
current success has been realized. In order to compete effectively Microsoft has to manage external relationships. External relationships occur between the company and
external stakeholders, such as customers, as well as buyers which can be wholesalers, but for the most part tend to be resellers, as well as OEM suppliers who are supplying
hardware, and are setting bundles including the Windows operating system, possibly other software as part of the package that is sold with the computer. In terms of the relationship
strategy the company has with external stakeholders, such as the resellers and the consumers, it may be argued that this is a relationship where Microsoft leverage their position, knowing their
dominance in the market gives them a degree of power over the smaller resellers and they seek to manage their relationship with customers by limiting exposure to competition, and developing
Microsoft as the default preference to easy access to the product. A clear indication of this strategy was seen when the well-known antitrust
case against Microsoft where it was found to Microsoft Word using a dominant position in order to gain market share, and an unfair competitive advantage.
