fact all of Europe during this monumental transition in our world known as the Renaissance. Michelangelo was a product of the Renaissance. Living from 1475-1564, the Italian master is
heralded as one of the most influential artists of the Renaissance, and of all time. The genius was a true master of the artistic mediums of the day. Sculptor,
painter and poet, Michelangelos work impacted and influenced all of these artistic mediums during this time of new beginnings. Renaissance, literally meaning "rebirth", grew from the dreariness of the
Middle Ages. The Middle Ages, generally accepted as the years 500 AD to 1400 AD, were the dark years (Colton and Palmer 49). Closed were the minds of the
people, unable and unwilling to express themselves. A wave of brightness would soon clear the land of Europe draped in shadows and fog for so many hundreds of years.
The people of Europe were eager for change, their human spirit had been drained of life and the urge to replenish had surfaced. The Renaissance was the result
of this prolonged gloom. This period of time catapulted the citizens of Europe from the land of the dark to a world filled with color, music and joy. From
approximately 1400 AD - 1600 AD the social, political and artistic transformation known as the Renaissance bridged the gap between the medieval and the modern. Visionaries such as da
Vinci, Raphael and Michelangelo thrived and blossomed in this environment. The artists of the Renaissance stepped to the forefront of this society, with no other artist being more successful
