properly! Michelangelo (1475-1564), has been referred to as one of the greatest artists of all time, crossing mediums through his
sculpture, paintings and architecture. Michelangelo began drawing early in his life, which led his father to place him under the tutelage of Ghirlandaio, who was a respected artist. Michelangelo did
not progress in his talent and was then placed with Bertoldo di Giovanni, a sculptor who lived with the Medici family. Michelangelo also lived with the Medicis and, in fact,
his first works were completed in their garden. Michelangelo was one of the founders of the High Renaissance period. Later, he would be known as one of the major
exponents of architectural Mannerism (Artchive, nd). Michelangelos work also led to a painting style known as Mannerism. This was the term used to describe the studies of the nude
in violent actions (MYStudios, nd). This is an artist who was well respected during his lifetime, a rarity for artists of any kind. He is best known for how he
illustrated the human body both in his paintings and in his sculptures. There is a sense of power and grandeur in both that most often aroused strong emotions in most
viewers. The size and strength that is depicted in his sculptures, especially, present the subject in a larger than life mode as if they are beyond the average real person.
