Paper Store, Inc. by P. Manuel 11/2010 Please There is little question that Mexican/Latino farm workers have faced some very
difficult times over the years, but recent labor laws/civil rights that were passed in their favor have helped ease some of that tension. One can only imagine before these labor
laws were passed the working conditions these individuals had to endure. They worked long hours for minimal wages and endured extensive heat in Mexico, Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico and California.
In addition, one can only picture the number of people who were unable to find work even though they were qualified. Because of these conditions, government officials in these states
wanted to ensure that agricultural laborers were being treated with dignity and respect. Like child labor laws, they wanted to make sure these individuals were not susceptible to any health
risks that could be prevalent from working long hours in extremely high heat. Plus, with the establishment of local unions, farmers and the local legislature wanted to ensure that these
individuals were being represented fairly in regards to the number of hours worked and the amount of wages paid. This essay will discuss the conditions Mexican/Latino farm workers have endured
over the years while examining the recent labor laws that were passed in their favor to ensure they are being treated equally and fairly.
