Essay / Research Paper Abstract
A 5 page paper discussing
The methods that have been developed over the years have been tested in the field, and they have been subject to assessment by accepted standards of empirical research. They have been found to be valuable in providing insight, but researchers still must constantly guard against unwittingly introducing their own biases to studies of specific populations.

in cultural anthropology is unique among disciplines employing empirical methods in that it so frequently addresses issues that are mutable according to populations, administrative structure, external societal conditions or other
qualities. Well-designed research can stand as relevant for decades, but lesser efforts may or may not be useful in practice at any time.
Most other disciplines are able to conduct research in a much broader vein, and many are not required even to venture past the walls of the institutions sponsoring the
research. Cultural anthropology differs greatly in this respect, as researchers are obliged to go out among those they seek to learn more about. This approach necessitates that qualitative
research methods prevail over quantitative, and it requires that researchers pay particular attention to issues of the ultimate validity of their work.
Qualitative Research There are three types of questions commonly used in research projects: descriptive, relational and causal. The most demanding of these
three is the causal questionnaire. Descriptive questions are those that are simply opinion polls, but are useful in early stages of research and for determining general views. They
seek to find out the opinions of a certain population. Relational studies are those in which questions are used to define relationships between
two or more variables. The Causal study is a cumulative effort of the three types of questions that are asked. Cause and effect, that is, causal questions are those
which would compare the type of activity (the cause) with observed results (the effect). The relational study, according to Cornell University, assumes that you can "first describe each of the
