-- properly! I, Mercutio, have learned first-hand what an excellent swordsman Tybalt Capulet is. His blade struck me under
the arm as I was attempting to defend the honor of my good friend, Romeo Montague. The pain is intense, but worth the suffering to protect the man who
has been like a brother to me. I am probably the only person who knows Romeo well; and I have seen him at his best and at his worst.
Romeo is a young man of many qualities, and it is his complexities that make him worth knowing. If only Romeo had not gotten involved with his familys
mortal enemies, the Capulets, our lives would have been considerably different. But the conventional road was never taken by the Romeo, and it is this shared spirit of rebellion
which has fueled our friendship and allowed it to survive even the most difficult of times. In my opinion, Romeos greatest strength was his passion. He never does
anything halfway, and when he feels committed to a person or a cause, there is nothing that prevents him from seeing it through. Romeo is very serious about life
and his feelings, sometimes too serious for me, I must admit. But, while my life often lacks purpose, and is more style than substance, Romeo is always very sure
of himself. He is a Montague son, and places a high value on his family legacy, but never allows it to compromise either his actions or his concept of
right and wrong. Another strength of Romeos is his profound sense of his own destiny. I can recall he once lamented to me and his cousin Benvolio, "I
