interesting reading, but there are some ways in which the reader experience could be improved, including allowing a greater development of character history to explain the odd ball behavior and
increase the richness of the characters, to allow for more input for some of the more peripheral characters, and to increase the length of the book to accommodate this. All
of these will help to increase the level of engagement with the reader, and increase the experience of the reader through that higher level of engagement. The book is
set in a wonderful and rich environment, in an area very few readers will have any experience within past watching television programs such as Northern Exposure. The setting is a
small village in Alaska, which is filled with interesting and unusual people, from diverse areas and from what we see they have difficult, challenging and sometimes just plain strange backgrounds.
With the setting of Alaska and the associated separateness from the rest of civilization characters such as Mary Ellen Madden, known as Mel, the mother of a teenage daughter who
decides to go grizzly bear hunting in order to raise the money she needs to raise her daughter, and we know has a history with a mother who undermined her
self esteem. Then there is the taxidermist; Cody Rosewater, who grew up with a hippie mother in Haight-Ashbury and taught him the value of self reliance.
