hospital in London. The challenges identified include the increased demand in terms of scope of tests as well as the capacity that can be handled as well as the way
that changes themselves are implimented. It may be easiest to start with the issue of the cope of the types of tests and results that are needed. The potential
for a wider number of conditions to be emerging as a result of increased international travellers has been discussed; the scope of this challenge is likely to increase as travel
becomes more available, especially in areas such as South East Asia and China. The challenge here is not the ability to the hospital to create the knowledge required by pathology;
this already exists and is available in the countries to which the conditions are native. The challenge is to ensure that the knowledge and any associated skills to be used
in the identification of condition are available and used within the NHS. For a teaching hospital this is a duel challenge, there is the responsibility to ensure that the knowledge
and skills are present, but teaching hospitals will also play a pivotal role in creating the required knowledge base in the UK. Approaches used may include the recruitment of pathologists
from areas which are likely to present challenges to bring in experience, while knowledge may be gained and learned from many academic sources many practitioners and theorists on knowledge creation
such as Nonkia, all advocate the ability to practice and experience to create tacit knowledge and a deeper understanding, This is already present in many aspect of pathology training, from
the ongoing development programs and the supervision models, as well as the hands on practices that is seen within the sources. The knowledge needs to be used and transferred.
