clots can substantially improve the outcomes for these patients (DoH, 2008). As the NHS strives to meet access targets for the populations they serve, organizational policy stresses that that change
should include input from the public, it is NHS policy to work "openly and collaboratively" with the public (DoH, 2008, p. 12). The NHS has established that within the
context of general practice care, a patient should be able to see a physician within 48 hours of requesting care and should be able to see a nurse within 24
hours. The Name of the specific surgery, located in Southeast London, services a population of roughly 12,000 patients with a staff of six doctors, two practice nurses and the author,
a nurse practitioner trainee. The author conducted a Health Needs Assessment (HNA) that involved sending out questionnaires that inquired if patients would welcome the practice staying open two extra evenings
per week, which is a strategy designed to improve access to care and achieving NHS target goals. The NHS has established HNAs as a primary tool by which clinicians can
