Shortly before 6 a.m. on December 26, 1996, Boulder police officers Karl Veitch and Rick French responded to a call from 755 15th Street, the home of millionaire Access Graphics
founder John Ramsey and his wife, former Miss West Virginia Patsy Ramsey. Mrs. Ramsey called to report finding a letter stating her daughter JonBenet had been abducted and being
held for ransom. Two hours later, Detective Linda Arndt joined the officers and found two couples there who were close personal friends of John and Patsy Ramsey as was
the family minister. There were no signs of forced entry and no footprints in the snow. According to Patsy Ramsey, she went downstairs to make coffee at approximately
5:45 a.m. and at the bottom of the back stairway, she discovered a three-page letter addressed to her husband that demanded $118,000 be paid for their daughters safe return.
