can be little arguing against the fact that we have become an incredibly self absorbed society. We are a people who, more often than not, think of ourselves, and the
importance of ourselves before we think of anything else. We are a culture that constantly seeks to improve "our" position and "our" future. We believe that we must look out
for ourselves before anyone else, for we can only be happy if we make ourselves happy first. In reality, however, many of our personal problems are because we possess a
narcissistic nature. And, the media knows this, consciously or unconsciously. They play on the cultures need to be self absorbed. They play on our need to improve ourselves. And, they
make money off our selfish desires to the point that our economy could likely not survive without our selfish concerns. In the following paper we discuss and examine how the
media plays a very important role in creating this narcissistic culture we reside within. The Media and Self Importance First off, we must understand that our media consists
of the television in terms of news and advertisements, as well as television shows that the public finds intriguing enough to watch. The media also consists of the radio, newspapers,
magazines, and all forms of advertisements that promote one product or another. We could also argue that film is another form of media, but it has a tendency to remove
itself from controlling society in an attempt to create entertainment as well as art. Therefor, for the purposes of this paper we focus on the media that involves television and
