the purposes of this paper, Legends Golf Club is a single-location business operating only in Raleigh, North Carolina. The capitol of North Carolina and the site of what is
known throughout the country as the "Silicon Valley of the East," rapid growth, high incomes, favorable weather patterns and other positive features of the area combine to create favorable external
conditions for Legends Golf Club. The purpose here is to devise a media plan for advertising Legends Golf Club in the local area. Area Features
As of July 2007, the estimated population of the greater Raleigh area was 367,995 (Raleigh Demographics, n.d.). There are three census tracts in Raleigh where average
family income is well over $100,000 (2000 Census Tract Chart, n.d.), and there are several others where average family income is in excess of $80,000.
There are several colleges and universities in and around Raleigh, most of which have golf teams and all of which hold several conferences and symposia annually. The
combined region of Raleigh, Durham and Chapel Hill - known as the Triangle - features three major universities (NC State in Raleigh, Duke in Durham, UNC in Chapel Hill) within
20 miles of each other, and the highest per capita rate of PhDs in the country. Central to the three cities is Research Triangle Park, which attracts businesses and
individuals not only from across the country, but throughout the world. The local airport is an international one served by 13 passenger carriers.
