of mass destruction is highly controversial to say the least and the media has flamed that controversy. The media has been particularly critical of the George W. Bush administration
in general, however. Their depiction of the circumstances surrounding the hunt for weapons of mass destruction has reflected their obvious dislike for that administration, a dislike which in actuality
extended to the George Bush Senior administration as well. While in that administration the media echoed the extreme sense of patriotism which was being felt in the country during
the Persian Gulf War, in this administration their whole coverage of the war in Iraq has been more critical. This paper questions why that has been the case and
asserts that, in effect, the media is using the growing doubt over the presence of weapons of mass destruction in Iraq to discredit George W. Bush.
The media depiction of the circumstances in Iraq is in actuality a continuation of the heavy news coverage of the events which unfolded in Iraq in 1991
with the initial foray into the country by then president George Bush Senior. For some reason the media has maintained a certain degree of sympathy with Iraq and its
leaders, regardless of how barbarian those leaders have proven themselves time and time again to be. Never-the-less, the media coverage of the Gulf War could not help but depict
certain facts about the war. The media made it clear that U.S. military strategy during the Gulf War concentrated on the
