both very large and diverse companies, looking at the way they operate there are both similarities and differences. News corporation may be seen as having a level of vertical integration
between its media networks, and strategic alliances whereas Disney has both vertical and horizontal integration and uses the corporation as strategic support in a more visible manner. Looking at
the News Corporation the way assets are used and managed may be seen as the result of careful management. Murdoch has taken the company from a single published title
to a global multimedia conglomerate. The leadership is undertaken in a very careful manner, the company does not appear have been started with a particular strategic plan, other than growth.
However, the leadership has not limited strategy that has been used to the commercial environment, but has exercised political muscles. With a history where it is suspected that Murdoch has
managed to influence the UK government when under the leadership of Margaret Thatcher and also the Australian government (Tunstall, 1996). We have also seen that Murdoch has been so committed
to growing the empire that he even obtained US citizenship to aid growth in the US. News Corporation operates in a satellite formation, or spoke formation, so that value can
be added from the centre. This has been the key to developing strong businesses from weak origins. The organisation has a great deal of intellectual capital in the different
business units. The centre is able to manage these and then allocate them across the different companies as required. This was seen in the US when media was bought, and
