the reporting of the 2000 election to favor Gore. Because Florida was a key state in the 2000 presidential election, when television anchors prematurely, and irresponsibly, announced that Gore took
Florida, the people in Western states might have changed their vote. They might have decided to stay home if they were Democrats as it seemed that Gore would win anyway.
As far as Bush voters were concerned, they might have believed that Bush no longer had a chance and so did not vote. Bush probably did lose votes due to
the media projection. Media bias is something that the media claims is simply not there. Perhaps they do not realized that the bias seeps through due not only to content
on the nightly news, but to the commentary by hosts. Their comments while waiting for the president to come out for example, and the verbiage used, all play a part
in the perception of events one way or another. It has been noted by conservative talk show hosts, who on radio or television, claim that the primary networks such as
CBS, NBC and ABC have anchors who are very liberal and this shows. Interestingly, both Dan Rather and Tom Brokaw announced that they would be retiring soon. However, throughout the
years it has been apparent that these media giants side with the Democratic party ideology. While Fox News has the reputation of being conservative--despite their claim of being fair
and balanced--some defend the network by suggesting that the rest of the media is liberal. Fox just gives the other side of the argument and so that balances things out.
Whether one believes that or not, one can believe that it is hard to find a completely objective broadcast today, an idea that journalism was built on. In fact, people
