not want to deal with small quantities; they are often manufacturing large quantities and it is not effective for them to undertake the development of smaller quantities. By contracting out
the OEMs can resource their resource input into smaller projects to those who are more specialised with their knowledge and input in the development for manufacture. This can be very
cost effective, as the opportunity costs may be high for the OEM, there is also the issue of control of costs and transfer of risks. By contracting out there is
the ability to gained fixed fee contracts and the risk is passed on, in part at least, to the contractor. The contract manufacturers are an important part of the
supply chain, it has been noted for a single piece of equipment there may be a number of different parts from different contractors. If a single supplier has a delay
this can impact on the OEMs supply chain. Therefore, as well as the aspects that would be expected for any contractor, with elements such as the right amount of goods
supplier at the right quality. There is also a very strict time constraint. To perform well all elements need to be brought together as well as aspects such as communications,
