road when they are highly motivated. In addressing the topic of childhood obesity, there are controversies. For example, there have been cases made against schools that sent letters home
telling parents that their children are obese. Obviously, the parents and the children themselves knows that they are carrying excess fat. The recipients of such letters would complain that the
notices just rub in the fact that they are fat, but does nothing to alleviate the problem. In fact, some experts believed that verbally attacking heavy people does not motivate
them to lose weight but can prompt a backlash. If simple information is not enough, how can public health and educational agencies address the problem of obesity in middle childhood?
In a hypothetical situation presented by a student, an agency is asked to research the growing incidences of obesity in middle childhood. As a part of the investigation, causative factors
are certainly relevant. If one can hone in on the causes of obesity then one can devise interventions to prevent it from occurring. Another important area of research is
obesitys impact on childhood from health, psychosocial and cognitive development standpoints. In designing a way to fight obesity in childhood, many factors must be considered. It is not enough to
just inform a child that they weight too much and should simply eat less. What ways can childhood obesity be counteracted? What solutions are schools, community organizations and social service
