The global society has long been transfixed with the aspect of advancement; ever since Galileos discovery of scientific proof, the world has feverishly continued down the path of progression without thinking much about inherent consequences. Indeed, the vast majority of mans inventions and discoveries since Galileos time have been beneficial specifically to his existence; however, McCarthy illustrates how contemporary society is bringing to light the prediction of German philosopher of science Hans Jonas with the very real possibility that possessing too much knowledge can actually be a dangerous concept for the worlds survival as a whole, a concern also put forth in Aldous Huxleys Brave New World where the author questions whether "centralized control of science and technology by government can impinge upon human freedom and jeopardize peace" (Lin, 2004, p. 78).
