McCarthy and Alexander Mitchell Palmer represented different political parties but both fought for what they believed was right. McCarthy, who served as a U.S. Senator from 1947-1957, not only spoke
out against communism but became publicly began accusing members of the federal government of their ties to communist organizations. He was unable to substantiate any of these claims and his
accusations eventually led to his censure by his colleagues in the U.S. Senate. However, his practices of calling out individuals and groups that were Soviet sympathizers and possible communists (better
known as McCarthyism) instilled a sense of fear in the American. However, this ironically also increased his approval rating and he became an extremely powerful national figure. Palmer, on the
other hand fought the policies of the American government during his time in Congress and attorney general under former President Woodrow Wilson, Born 36 years before McCarthy, Palmer was a
Quaker and he is best know for coordinating the controversial Palmer Raids, which were attempts by the federal Department of Justice to not only arrest but extradite liberal radicals from
