the Democratic Party, Hinchey came to Congress after serving 18 years in the New York State Assembly (Congressman Hincheys Biography). During his Congressional career, thus far, Hincheys top priorities have been to facilitate the economic security of working families, strengthen the educational system and protect the environment (Congressman Hincheys Biography). Hincheys record indicates that he brought a great deal of experience to his role as congressman. While serving in Albany, he was responsible for developing a statewide system of Urban Cultural Parks (now referred to as Heritage Areas). He is the author of the act that created the Hudson River Valley Greenway and wrote the federal legislation that established the Hudson Valley as a National Heritage Area (Congressman Hincheys Biography). Born in 1938. Hinchey served in the military. He joined the Navy after graduating from high school. He then served in the Pacific and received an honorable discharge at the end of his enlistment. Hinchey then worked for several years as a laborer in a Hudson Valley cement plant. When he decided to go to college, he enrolled at State University of New York. Hinchey had to finance his college career by working nights as a toll collector. After earning his undergraduate degree, he went on to earn a masters degree and did advanced graduate work in public administration and economics at State University of New York at Albany (Congressman Hincheys Biography). He lives in Saugerties with his wife, Ilene Marder Hinchey, and their young daughter, Michelle. He has two grown sons, Maurice Scott and Josef, and two grandchildren.
