of an issue. Maturity also indicates that the individual knows his own mind and knows who and what he is. But where
is the boundary between youth and maturity? Does one awake one day as a youth and the next as a mature adult? Does gaining maturity translate into cessation
of the need to grow? The mature, responsible, accountable and outward-looking adult must return a negative response to the last question. The individual crosses the boundary between youth
and maturity when he moves away from the center of the circle that is his life. Stepping Aside Moving away from that central
position is a subtle migration that involves a gradual shift to an outward view. The mature individual notices people talking as he approaches without a thought that the people
may have been talking about him. Televisions Dr. Phil McGraw repeats a statement that many parents have told their young teens: "You wouldnt be nearly so concerned about
what people think of you if youd realize how seldom they do." The mature person is more interested in mercy than justice in
small daily matters. In no way is this statement meant to indicate that criminals should not be punished but should be shown "mercy" and set free to continue the
