prophets. The Sermon is recorded in Mathew 5, 6, and 7. There can be little argument that the lessons in this Sermon are as relevant today as they were when Christ delivered it. The Sermon in its entirety has two purposes. First, Jesus wants to shake the listeners out of their lethargy as well as their riotousness. Second, Jesus wanted to show them that a literal translation of the law was wrong (Kretzmann, 2011). For centuries, different religions claim to be the true religion. They also have different perspectives on who will be safe and what we need to do to be saved. Jesus said: "Not everyone who says to me, Lord, Lord, will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. Many will say to me on that day, Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?" (Matthew 7:21-23). This is about obedience. We must follow Gods will, we must obey. Nothing has changed in terms of obeying God. In various places, Jesus gives specific instructions about what we are to do, in other words, how we can obey God. Even people who do miracles or cast out demons or who prophecy will automatically enter the Kingdom of God. Jesus never said that people had to perform miracles or do any of the other things to join Him next to His Father in Heaven. They must first obey.
