These books, which are known as a book of hours, are abbreviated breviaries and contain the liturgy that cloistered monks recited throughout the day (Jones). The typical book of hours
contained: "The Little Office of the Blessed Virgin...The Office of the Dead...(and) The Litany of Saints" (Jones). One of the most beautiful surviving book of hours was created by an
unknown French artist, known simply as the Master of the Rohan Hours ("Master"). This artists masterpiece is the illumination for the Rohan Book of Hours (Grandes Heures de Rohan,
c. 1430-33, Paris) ("Master"). Along with the theologically-themed illuminations, it also contains the coat-of-arms of the Rohan Family, which consists of gules with seven gold macles ("Master"). However, it is
not certain if these arms are original ("Master"). Scholarship associates the creation of the Rohan Hours with the court at Angevin and specifically with Yolande of Aragon, who was
the wife of the Duke of Anjou, Louis II ("Master"). Some of the miniatures in this manuscript suggest that the Master of Rohan was familiar with the work of
the Limbourg brothers and in their Belles Heures of Jean, Duc de Berry (c. 1405-8) and it is known that Yolande purchased this book after the Ducs death in 1416
("Master"). It is also believed by scholars that the extensive biblical cycle contained in the Rohan Hours is based on the Bible moralisee, which was brought from Naples to the
court of Anjou by Louis II ("Master"). Yolande may have commissioned the creation of the Rohan Hours in 1431 as part of the celebration of the marriage of Charles of
