these approaches are sometimes not perceived in the best of light either with medical professionals themselves or the patients that they treat. Complimentary Medicine encompasses a wide gamut of
approaches to health care which are "complimentary" not only to themselves but also to modern approaches to medicine. Massage is particular interesting in this regard. Even mainstream medical
professionals are finally beginning to recognize that fact. A problem emerges, however, when trying to integrate massage into mainstream medicine. Because massage has been so vehemently targeted for
so long by the mainstream medical practice, the damage that has been done will take a long time to undo. With concerted effort, however, ultimately massage will become accepted
as one of the most advantageous complimentary medicines for treating a diversity of medical problems. One solution to this problem is patient education. The same medical professionals that
so vigorously opposed massage should now openly change their policies and start supporting massage to their patients. One specific means of doing this is through the provision of pamphlets
that educate patients as to the benefits of massage as a complimentary medicine. The intent of this paper is to provide an overview of the issues that surround massage
and the literature that support the fact that it is an effective approach in the treatment of some medical problems when it is combined with modern medicine in a complimentary
way. In addition an implementation plan will be developed for the production and distribution of pamphlets designed to educate patients about the benefits of massage.
