in going against nature. While many regard Frankenstein as a monster, a more introspective look into Frankensteins experiences reveals that he is more of a hero than a villain,
more of a sensitive human being than a wild creation of a mad scientist or a weak and cowardly beast. Shelleys repetitive use of the theme of nature is
instrumental in bringing home this point just as it is in bringing home Victors own inner turmoil over his responsibility for the disaster his creature will ultimately leave in his
wake. Through various components of nature Shelley manages to instill deeper meaning, intrigue, and realism to a story which might otherwise be dismissed by some as only science
fiction. People have been fascinated by Mary Shellys creation since the publication of "Frankenstein" in the latter part of the 1800s.
This fascination has not decreased over time as happens with many works of fiction. The contemporary intrigue of the Frankenstein character is testified to by the fact that
so many movies have been made which were inspired by it. Within each, regardless of how varied they are from one another and even from Shellys original book, is
the underlying theme of nature. It is partially due to the theme of nature, in fact, that Victor Frankenstein is able
