roles of Marxs dialectical method as well as his concept of historical materialism are quite important. The dialectic is a methodological tool for understanding how the interaction between labor and
nature occurs (Shuklian 781). It also is integral in explaining how things change with successive modes of production and may also possibly project future states of the world (781).
The focal point is human activity and experience as demonstrated by social relations and nature as well (781). The Marxian dialectal method is not deterministic (781). No one knows what
the future holds. Rather, the dialectic is humanistic (781). People change the world, as well as themselves, in a continuing process that occurs over historical time (781). Karl Marxs philosophy
of history is known as historical materialism. While Marx can claim authorship, many who have come after him have used his theories as a springboard for their own. Marxs work,
which focuses primarily on this concept is Contribution of the Critique of Political Economy, which was published in 1859 (McLeish 348). The core belief is that progress is made in
human history, which is characterized by the humans tendency to try to master nature and accumulate technological capacities (348). Methods of organizing work, and the political belief systems which go
along with them, will persist as long as technological progress is encouraged (348). According to Marx and Engels, five progressive modes of production have always existed and these may be
also thought of as forms of governmental control. These ranged all the way from slavehood to feudalism to capitalism and then would later progress to socialism and communism (348). Historical
