The feudal estate property structure was based on community but there were distinct classes. As the feudal society began to amass more capital along with debt, revolutions were brought
against the aristocracy and this led to the capitalistic structure. It was at this point that a small percentage of the population profited while a large percentage of the population
did the work that yielded those profits (Felluga, 2011). It was a small proportion of the population that was in control of all the capital. Marx believed that capitalism
emerged when labor became a commodity, something to be bought and sold. He distinguished between two classes of people. Those who bought labor to produce a commodity were called capitalists
or the bourgeois and those who sold their labor power whom he called proletarians. He believed the bourgeois would always exploit the proletarians (Felluga, 2011; Moseley, 2010). He spent a
great deal of time discussing the nature of value. He used these arguments to demonstrate how capitalism was bad for people. He stated that labor time is the only that
that all commodities share and this leads to value. There must be exchange value. In a barter society, good were exchanged in such a way as to reflect value, specifically
use value or how valuable that item is to each person (Felluga, 2011). In labor today, use-value no longer matters because labor has taken on an abstract form. Labor is
