Although to a great extent, the uneducated would discard Marxism as something only equated with the failed communist state attempts of the twentieth century, those who study history and economics know better. To a large extent, Marxism helps to explain the dichotomy that exists in the world. It helps to explain why there are rich and poor people and why, no matter what one does, he or she cannot get out of a social class. And while Marxism has done all of these things, some critics say that even if one accepts his premises, what might one do with it? They claim that communism is no solution for societys ills. Yet, there are many things one can do with the information that comes from this theorist. His ideas are succinctly simple and may be applied to any era. Indeed, Marxism has withstood the test of time and many writers through the ages have embraced his ideas and expanded upon them. II. Marxism The Economic and Philosophic Manuscripts of 1844 is a Marxian work that plays a large role in his philosophy, particularly as it respects ethics. Of course, that is not always apparent on the surface, but like much of his writings, Marx expresses a profound insight into the human experience, and promotes ethical treatment of people. In fact, his ideas about alienation go to the well being of individuals, something many would equate with ethical thinking. This is true despite the fact that Marx also was interested in large paradigms and global economic systems. He could see both the big picture, and how individuals are affected.
