time, Marx had already witnessed the results of the revolution, but it was not to his liking. Prior to the time the Manifesto was written, in there would be an
industrial revolution in England where power machines and factories would replace ordinary life ("Karl Marx," 2006). It began in the 1700s ("Karl Marx," 2006). It was at this time that
men and women and children would labor, doing repetitive tasks in the factories ("Karl Marx," 2006). They would assist in making the goods that they did not own and would
soon require wages in order to live in the society ("Karl Marx," 2006). Soon, it would be a culture driven by work. In fact, this is the first time in
history where people would need to work for money in order to live and was the start of capitalism ("Karl Marx," 2006). One can imagine that Marx and Engels
looked around, seeing some people toil, where others would profit off of their labor, and thought it quite unfair. In their estimate, it was capitalism causing the strife.
2. According to Marx, what is positive/progressive about capitalism ? For Marx, capitalism is a necessary evil. That is, in order for a communist society to exist, it
needs a monetary base. In fact, Marxs premise of historical materialism would help to explain why capitalism was necessary. In Marx and Engels paradigm in the Communist Manifesto, the vision
included a progression that would embrace capitalism. In effect, it was believed that capitalism was necessary in order to create wealth. That is why capitalism is considered positive even though
it is not considered to be a viable system for the long haul. Nations should only after embracing capitalism and building up reserves move forth to socialism, and finally
