Friedrich Engels and Karl Marx co-wrote the Communist Manifesto, a document that presents a vision of struggle and deliverance that was appropriated form "Jewish and Christian culture" (p. 124). Quoting
Professor Murray Rothhard, Walker argues that Marxism, at its core, is "jargon-ridden concepts in philosophy, economics, history, culture...Communism was the goal...the desideratum, the ultimate end that would make the
sufferings of mankind throughout history worthwhile" (Walker, 2000, p. 124). As this implies, Walker sees Marxs theories more as quasi-religion then anything else. Religious messianists do not describe their kingdoms-to-come
in any great detail and neither did Mark (Walker, 2000). The world now acknowledges that communism as an economic system is a massive failure. However, it should be noted
that Marx was not an economist, but a philosopher. Except for attacking his eras economic order, the Manifesto did not include a great deal of economic information. In Marxs imagined
utopia, private property would be eliminated, with absolutely no consideration give to the fact that this robs workers of individual motivation to work. Individualism is dismissed, and devotion to a
new collective social organism was assumed (Walker, 2000). Walker (2000) goes on to point out where some of Marxs most famous lines were appropriated from the work of others.
Louis Blanc (1811-1882) gets the credit for the Marxist line about "from each according to his abilities; to each according to his needs," although it must be admitted that Marx
said it better t hen Blanc. Walker also believes that Marx may have adopted some of ideas from Louis Morelly (2000). According to Walker, the most fundamental flaw in
Marxs design was the assumption that goods in a communist utopia would be abundant (2000). Marx optimistically conjectured away concepts such as scarcity of resources and goods (Walker, 2000).
