Orwells essay is a look at an experience with having to shoot an elephant, presumably a real experience that Orwell had. From this perspective it is clear that the two essays are very different and written for very different reasons. At the same time these two works speak about injustice and prejudices. With this in mind the following paper focuses on how the two essays are different. Martin Luther King and George Orwell: Essays In Kings essay, as noted, the work is written to fellow clergymen in the hopes they will understand what he is saying about nonviolence. He tells them, in the beginning, "I came across your recent statement calling my present activities unwise and untimely. Seldom do I pause to answer criticism of my work and ideas" (King). In this one can see that King is a man who rarely addresses such people but being that he has nothing better to do, being in jail, he believes that this is a good time to try to convince them of his nonviolent approaches and how nonviolence does not mean sitting back and taking injustice. In the essay of Orwell his story speaks of injustices but he does nothing about them but recognize them, and at times endorse them. In fact, one could claim that this is the entire foundation of his story for he is showing the reader how he decided he could not be laughed at by Africans: "it was quite probable that some of them would laugh. That would never do" (Orwell). In this he speaks of pride and of being white and keeping up appearances with Africans, pretending he was something other than ...
