disobedience in order to make changes that were long needed in the nation. The following paper examines Martin Luther King Jr. and the Civil Rights Movement. Martin Luther
King Jr. and the Civil Rights Movement "Martin Luther King, Jr. was born on January 15, 1929 at his family home in Atlanta,
Georgia" (Martin Luther King, Jr.: Civil-Rights Leader, 2007). He was born to a family wherein his father as well as grandfather were pastors/preachers and King himself went on to gain
his "Bachelor of Divinity degree from Crozier Theological Seminary in 1951 and...his Doctor of Philosophy from Boston University in 1955" (Martin Luther King, Jr.: Civil-Rights Leader, 2007). It was while
at the seminary that King came to know the philosophy of Gandhi as it related to non violent protesting in order to create change (Martin Luther King, Jr.: Civil-Rights Leader,
2007). He then took a trip to India where he met with the followers of Gandhi wherein he became even more convinced that non violent protesting was the way of
the future for the struggles of the African Americans in the United States (Martin Luther King, Jr.: Civil-Rights Leader, 2007). His focus, however, was on all people who were treated
unjustly and with inequality in the United States. Upon his return to the United States he quickly became very actively involved in Civil Rights in many different ways: "As a
