The following paper examines the life and works of Martin Luther King Jr.. Martin Luther King Jr.: Life and Works Martin Luther King, Jr., was born on January 15 in 1929 (Nobelprize.org). His birth name was "Michael Luther King, Jr., but later had his name changed to Martin" (Nobelprize.org). He came from a relatively involved line of preachers as his grandfather served as a pastor "of the Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta, serving from 1914 to 1931; his father has served from then until the present, and from 1960 until his death Martin Luther acted as co-pastor" (Nobelprize.org). It is interesting to note that as a young individual Martin was exposed to things in the church that he was confused by and things that made him want to be the powerful minister he was. One author notes, for example, some of his past in the following in these regards: ""Kings growing social awareness and intellectual maturity made it quite natural for him to query the church. While black ministers were influential figures, they did not, by and large, take the lead in challenging the racial caste system. As Daddy King recalled, Instead of championing the rights of their members, a lot of those ministers simply took their orders from whites and passed them along to Negroes. And the message was simply one of accommodation and silence" (Fairclough 10).
