was an influential man to the writer of this essay. Martin Luther King Jr. One of the things that makes King such a powerful influence, and a positive
influence, for this writer is the fact that he was actually a preacher, a religious man, who actually entered the secular world to change it. One author notes, "In 1954,
Martin Luther King accepted the pastorale of the Dexter Avenue Baptist Church in Montgomery, Alabama. Always a strong worker for civil rights for members of his race, King was, by
this time, a member of the executive committee of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, the leading organization of its kind in the nation" (NobelPrize.org, 2007).
