the nursing process in terms of human interaction basing her thoughts on the concept of viewing "the universe as a collection of open systems of which we interact independently and continuously without causality" (Hornberger, 1998). Hornberger states that one must understand a number of definitions in order to grasp Rogers framework (Hornberger, 1998). They are: * Energy. Energy is a core component in understanding Rogers Science of Unitary Human Beings. Energy is a continuous interaction between the environment and the person. Each person has their own degree of energy and each has their own identity and intensity in terms of their interaction with the environment. This energy that goes between the environment and each person is integrated, further, it cannot be separated (Hornberger, 1998). * Pattern. The energy of humans has a different pattern than the energy of the environment. Although patterns are invisible, manifestations of patterns may be observed in different ways. Hornberger says that "human patterns can be described as a single weave that is dynamic, unpredictable, creative and continuous" and offers the analogy of a kaleidoscope to explain these patterns. Patterns are unpredictable but, like the kaleidoscope, they have a certain amount of order to them (Hornberger, 1998). Patterns can be altered through specific techniques. * Openness. The human and environmental systems are open. This also means that these two systems are involved in exchanging energy. Change affects both and people are never the same from one day to the next. Humans are integral with their environment but they do not adapt to it. * Pandimensionality. "Human beings have unique properties that enable them to be irreducible and indivisible" (Hornberger, 1998). Rogers coined the term pandimensionality to describe a reality that was not confined or restrained by time and space (Hornberger, 1998). ...
