book, has not aged well. Although it may have
broken much ground in advancing the need to
discuss differences in gender communications, the
reduction of communication skills to simplistic
solutions, which often seem prone to the author's
perceptions of how it 'should' be, no longer have
the power that kept the book on the New York Times
bestseller list for 92 weeks.

power that kept the book on the New York Times bestseller list for 92 weeks. The Theory (In summary) Taking a light approach to a problem is not unique to
Gray, it has probably been used for centuries, as we as humans seem to learn much easier when we are laughing, than when we show no emotion at all.
Gray says, "Men mistakenly expect women to think, communicate, and react the way men do; women mistakenly expect men to feel, communicate, and respond the way women do. We have
forgotten that men and women are supposed to be different. As a result our relationships are filled with unnecessary friction and conflict. Clearly recognizing and respecting these differences dramatically reduce
confusion when dealing with the opposite sex. When you remember that men are from Mars and women are from Venus, everything can be explained." The Discussion Although one may debate
whether "everything" needs to be "explained," Gray developed an interesting working premise: if you learn what the other side is doing, or how the other side is acting, it
will be easier for you to deal with them. The rub, at this point in time seems to be that Gray not only describes how and what men are-the
characteristics of Mars-but also lets women (from Venus) know how they (those from Mars) should be "appropriately "treated. For example, most are aware that people have different communication styles,
