and that the symbolism and metaphor in fiction is really present in daily life. People simply miss the signs, the innuendoes, the messages, that are meant for them. Love and
marriage are themes in the world. Although the divorce rate climbs, love and marriage is sanctioned by every generation. Despite the fact that some generations have made it a point
to live together first, something that earlier generations have frowned upon, marriage has never been discarded. Even as Britney Spears got married for a lark, and the marriages of the
stars fizzle, marriage is something that many aim for. To an extent, marriage fills a need. Yet, when one contemplates the subject of divorce, it becomes obvious that perhaps marriage
impedes on the freedom of women and it is frankly because of this that marriages fail. There are those who contend that the old fashioned marriage that embraces the paradigm
of the stay at home wife and mother is something desirable. Yet, it is perhaps the fact that traditional marriage as it is exemplified by the nuclear family that leaves
women unfulfilled. It is ultimately this missing part of life--or the lack of freedom-- that destroys marriages, a theme that is replete through a great deal of literature, films, plays
and so forth. Fiction exemplifies these themes which have been written throughout history by both women and men. In more recent times, films have also focused on this idea.
