is almost always the woman who does the majority of the emotional work. Studies have found that men usually initiate sex exactly for that reason: to have intercourse.
Women on the other hand need an emotional attachment, a feeling that they are being loved and not just being used as an object. For this reason, women tend
to want to dwell longer on foreplay and romance, thus ensuring themselves that they are loved before they give in to sex. "Popular writers, psychologists, therapists and sociologists have focused
on the trouble caused by gendered difference in intimate relationships. They describe a typical pattern in which men approach relationships primarily with sex in mind, whereas women downplay the
element of sex and emphasize emotional attachment and intimacy" (Coltrane and Collins 247). QUESTION 2 Institutions tend to reduce pluralism because once a couple is married it is considered
dangerous or very risky for a partner to engage in an extramarital affair. It is quite interesting to note that fewer women than men engage in extramarital affairs, not
because women are more honorable or faithful than are men, but because women are more economically insecure and "consequently fear losing monetary support for their children" (Coltrane and Collins 310).
However, more women than men do have a sense of family values and thus tend to have fewer extramarital affairs. Also there is a consideration as to what
