each individual (Jaffe et al, 2007). II. GESTALT The holistic component of Gestalt addresses every aspect of the couples composition, both together and as individuals. This comprehensive approach
serves to fill the void of therapies that focus upon only certain segments of a problem or person; the underlying composition is such that if the person or couple is
not whole in both body and mind, the therapeutic process cannot truly lead them to a healing place. The components of Gestalt therapy include many interactive elements that compel
clients to become active in their own healing rather than remain inert in the chair while the counselor talks at - instead of with - them. Primary application includes
active (empathetic) listening, elucidation, learning how to communicate effectively, encouraging expression of said communication, role playing and establishing therapeutic alliance (expounded upon later in this paper) (Jaffe et al, 2007).
Gestalts basic principle revolves around clients being in tuned with their internal components such as reasoning, beliefs, thoughts, ideas and knowledge that have often been severed amidst the emotional turmoil.
