Her two-year-old has yet another ear infection, the aftermath of a cold combined with not yet enough time for enough physical growth that those ear tubes drain rather than allow
fluid to pool where bacteria can grow. Her older child is over the cold he had at the same time as the younger one, but he still has not
fully recovered and gets tired and cranky more quickly than before the cold season hit. She is a single mom, but not for so long that she fails to
remember that she always had full responsibility for the kids without any help from her now ex-husband. This experience is one that has become quite old hat to her.
She feels twinges of guilt when Monday comes and she is happy she can return to work to be surrounded by adults; sometimes she wonders whether she is a
bad mother for having those occasional feelings. Her mother lives nearby and helps with the kids when she can, but that does not
often occur and she is not one who would "dump" her children on her mother. The end result is that she has little actual help and even less moral
support. Most of the time she enjoys her children and takes life in stride, but it is difficult when one or both is sick.
Still, she knows she is fortunate to have health insurance and be able to see a doctor virtually on demand. Many of her friends do not enjoy
that luxury and depend on state and federal health programs for their childrens healthcare while their own is nonexistent. It is difficult to meet premiums on her salary, but
