Essay / Research Paper Abstract
A 5 page paper marketing a plagiarism detector system that accepts electronic files, but focuses on analyzing hard copy for plagiarized content. The Honor System machine works on the same principle as any standard fax machine. The machine digitizes content and transmits it to the Honor System servers, where the data is analyzed for similarity to published works and those that other instructors already have submitted for analysis. The machine produces a one-page report in hard copy, similar to the confirmation page produced by fax machines with that capability. The paper includes a review of features, benefits and cost, and provides ordering instructions. Bibliography lists 1 source.

Honor System is a plagiarism detection device designed for assessing the originality of hard copy papers. There are a growing number of online services that compare electronic files
to those submitted for analysis. Perhaps the best known of these is the subscription-based service Turnitin.com, which compares instructor-submitted student papers to Turnitins database of more than 4.5 billion
pages, which the company increases at a daily rate of 40 million (Plagiarism Prevention, 2005). Of course there are many other plagiarism detection
services that can be found online, but each of them requires an electronic file. Many require subscriptions based on numbers of instructors using the service and the numbers of
students for which each instructor is responsible. One of the benefits of Honor System is that the purchase of the device includes the cost of one years subscription to
the service, and renewal for additional years is highly cost effective. Product Pitch / Sales Line Plagiarism has been increasing since the advent
of the Internet, and particularly as so many research databases have become available to students. It is a catch-22 situation: students need access to online sources in order to
complete their assignments, and the convenience of form and searching provide greater opportunity for plagiarizing than ever existed before. Instructors are not to
allow plagiarism to go undetected and unpunished, yet neither can they reasonably be expected to search through millions of pages of information, not all of which may be available to
them through their schools database subscriptions. Many users of online plagiarism detection services believe that the very action positively contributes to reduced plagiarism.
