associated with aluminum bats -- they cause the ball to go farther faster making it more dangerous, they offer an unfair advantage, even that they "ping" instead of "crack." Hruby
(1999) explains: "Introduced in the mid-1970s as a cheaper, more durable alternative to wood, metal bats have become increasingly potent, forged with advanced alloys enclosing pressurized air chambers" (pp. 42).
As with every other aspect of modern life, technology has changed how people live -- from work to play. Customer Wants and Needs The very issues that are the
most controversial about aluminum bats also have the potential to be the most powerful in terms of marketing them. The fact that they have been proven to increase batting records
for college teams, as well as the number of home runs per game should be seen as a positive consideration rather than one with negative connotations. Hruby adds that: "Some
coaches and players claim these powerful bats are ruining the integrity of the game and placing pitchers at undue risk" (pp. 42). But what might be considered is that the
increased hitting has added a greater measure of excitement to a game that has floundered, especially on high school and college campuses, because fans have declared it a "boring" game.
Furthermore, aluminum bats actually provide athletic programs with a longer-lasting product which ultimately proves itself to be extremely cost effective for school teams that virtually always are seeking increased funding
for equipment. Patton (1984) adds: "... aluminum bats, which cost more than wooden ones but almost never break, have become the standard at every level of baseball except the professional
