supply chains are not simply the sources of goods, but also the sourcing of services, with off shore call centres and outsourced services such as software development. It was
argued by Martin (1992) that it is not only firms that compete, it is also supply chains, with the way connections and networks are formed between firms playing a valuable
role in the way firms competed. However, as time has gone by the environment has changed. The countries that once offered a significant comparative advantage have evolved and the development
of the economy has lead to convergence, which is aligned to the Solow-Swan model where developing countries will move towards a point of economic convergence (Mingchun et al, 2007). This
is one of the reasons that there ahs been a shift in many supply chains towards areas such as China and away from the Asian tigers, the comparative advantages in
some areas has lessened. The question is whether or not there is still room by chains seeking new geographical markets. It is not only the potential movement of different
economies towards economic convergence that may be a potential lessening of both source markets and destination markets as a result of that convergence. There are also other factors are work,
increased costs of transportation and concerns regarding the damage of global supply chains on the environment with the pollution and non financial costs associated with moving goods around the world
has also become a social concern, with many firms seeking out local suppliers in order to lessen environmental impacts. However, despite
