how, as the title suggests, there are perhaps at least 6 different sorts of plagues that are occurring in the world today. His work illustrates how much of the plagues
are caused by things humanity does, or does not do. The following paper first examines what these plagues are and then presents a personal reaction to the work as a
whole. Six Modern Plagues As one would expect, one of the modern plagues is HIV/AIDS. As most people are likely aware, this disease has been found to have
originated in Africa, a place where it is truly running dangerously rampant today. Walters indicates that the foundation behind the problem involves deforestation. Too many forests in Africa have been
cleared and this leads to many of the loggers are responsible for an increase in the trafficking of bushmeat. In this we see that humans and wild apes and monkeys
are coming into closer contact on a constant basis. This has provided the opportunity the virus needs in order to infiltrate the human race. In the end, it is the
destruction of forests and the greed of humans that has led to the growth of this disease. Another plague is mad cow disease. This is due to large slaughter
house practices that only want to get meat produced as fast and cheaply as possible. With mad cow disease Walters tells us that the feed that cows and sheep get
is actually inadvertently mixed with the remains of slaughtered animals. Bits of brain and nervous tissue end up in the feed of the sheep and the cows and this leads
to mad cow disease. Again, it is the desires and greed of mankind that has brought about this plague. The next plague to be examined is Salmonella typhimurium DT104. this
