the many benefits of legalization. We hear argument that claim prohibition did not work for alcohol and it is certainly not working for marijuana. We have heard that there are
many positive health benefits to smoking marijuana for people with particular illnesses. And, we have certainly heard the cry that argues the economy would be far better off if marijuana
were taken off the black market and put into a legalized position that would benefit the economy. While some of these arguments are perhaps valid, they do not provide enough
material from which one can rationally argue that marijuana should be legalized. One of the reasons for this is that even if there are some benefits, such as health
benefits for those suffering from particular conditions, we do not need yet another potentially harmful drug being legalized and available to the public in general. The category of helpful drugs,
to which marijuana could belong, are not "legal" in the sense that they can be obtained by anyone at the corner store. They are prescribed drugs. And, the reason they
are prescribed drugs is because they have the potential to be harmful if taken wrong. The relationship between marijuana and other drugs is clearly seen in the following statement: "Marijuana
could be a prescribed drug, similar to what is done with morphine" (Marijuana - the Pros and Cons of Legalization, 2003). Clearly there may be potential health benefits, but
like smoking for example, it interferes with the natural health of an individuals lungs. And, for all the efforts put into stopping people from smoking it seems ridiculous that we
would allow another such drug into the society. We have enough trouble with our children today in keeping them away from smoking and we do not need to illustrate how,
